What “Fruit” Are You Producing?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Fruit Inspection

Have you ever wondered what the job of a fruit inspector is? It never came across my mind either. The federal government has set standards for what is acceptable for food consumption in the United States. The (FDA) Food and Drug Administration is the federal agency that is responsible for setting those standards and making sure companies are adhering to those standards.

All fruit are inspected and if it passes those standards then it is ultimately good for consumption. If it does not pass, then it is thrown away.

What Standards Do You Follow?

In our finances we use our own standards when it comes to our finances, but it is God who wakes us up every morning to allow us to make a living so we can provide for our families. As Christians we should be seeking Gods standards when it comes to money management and not try to change Gods standards to meet our standards.

Statistics

In 2007, the Pew Research center did a study on financial problems and worries and they determined the following:

-36% of Americans say that they spend more than they can afford

-36% of Americans feel that their financial situation is out of control

-70% of Americans say they worry about money often

I hope these statistics will cause you and me to ask “What fruit am I producing in our finances?

Many of us are producing the following fruit in our finances:

  1. Discontentment (Hebrews 13:5)
  2. Impatience (Proverbs 21:5)
  3. Greed (Proverbs 28:22)
  4. Misuse of Money (Matthew 6:24)
  5. Excessive Anxiety (Luke 12:29)

However, If you are experiencing any of these fruits in your finances, there is hope if you follow God’s plan for managing money. The bible has over 2300 verses about money that we can apply to our finances.

in other words, begin to inspect your finances like the fruit inspector and you will begin to experience peace, joy patience, self-control and faithfulness in your finances.

Finally, Remember to:

-Spend less than you earn

-Begin a budget

-Track your spending

-stop impulse spending

-Throw away credit card advertisements
